Twitter recently rolled out their latest update that finally made @ replies even more confusing. Now, usernames no longer count towards the 140 character limit. It's an update that nobody really asked for and that nobody seems to be happy with, especially when considering the uptick of abuse that has plagued the platform as of late.

Though every update Twitter rolls out is apparently in the interest of helping new users, the site seems to be more confusing and convoluted than ever before. (Also, the default picture isn't an egg anymore, for some reason.)

So we did some thinking and came up with eight simple things Twitter can do to actually make its platform a little better.

1. The tweet box gives you a fair warning.

2. Anybody who wants to hurl abuse at another user must provide some more information.

3. Automatically filters out any Hitler praise.

4. New feature that explains why everyone is mad at this journalist you've never heard of.

5. New feature that labels which trending topics are depressing.

6. 24-hour cool down after it's determined you are "Mad Online."

7. A rating system that tells you how funny your joke is before you post it.

8. A new feature that helps you determine if you should be tweeting about a current event.
